Each month we highlight a different Menlo Club member and ask them a few questions about their life and style. Read below to find out more about Club member Solomon David Gomez.
What does style mean to you?
Style is many things to me, but mainly it is the ability to leave the house feeling good about what I’m in and feel good about myself. I feel that my style is actually a representation of who I am as an individual.
When did you first get into photography and why do you continue to do it?
I have been into photography for a long time but it wasn’t until about four years ago that I really got into it and made it my career path. I love photography; I love being able to capture memories and scenes that I see, and I love being able to create something that everyone else can see and feel exactly how I felt when I captured it. Most of all, I continue to do it because it’s one of the only things that I am incredibly passionate about. It’s truly an honor to do what I do and to love it to my core.
How do you step outside of your comfort zone?
I do it every day actually. I am quite shy. Every time I walk up to someone and ask to take a photo of them; it’s really out of my comfort zone, but it’s something that burns in me so I am able to get past the anxiety and make it happen. It gets easier as the days go by but still something that takes an effort to overcome sometimes.
What’s your go-to outfit?
My go-to outfit is usually a nice pair of jeans, a button up, and a great pair of shoes or boots. And when I’m hanging out around the house, I am all about fitted sweats and a tee.
How do you make it easier to fit fashion into your life?
Since I was a kid I have always been about fashion. My mom would dress me up and I actually preferred that, so as I got older it stuck with me. I have always been into ties and bow ties, I’ve always been into blazers and cool jeans, too, so it has always been a part of me and my identity if I’m being honest.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to open a photography studio in Chicago. It’s something that I have always wanted and I am currently trying to work out all of the logistics to make that happen!
Do you have any lifestyle pro-tips?
The Lifestyle tips that I have are:
- Always be yourself no matter what
- Be good to people
- Treat everyone the same
- Be a support system for others—but most of all to yourself.
And finally, if you have goals, pursue them! If you have dreams, make them a reality! And if you want something, go and get it! Work hard and be great.
